in New England to Have Earned
AAA's Four Diamond Award Since
the Award's Inception in 1976

To help AAA members choose Approved establishments which fit to their needs and expectations, AAA assigns descriptive ratings, in selected categories, that indicate the extensiveness of facilities, amenities and services. Lodgings and restaurants are rated one to five AAA Diamonds, ranging from basic to luxury. This rating system was instituted in 1976.

Stage Neck Inn was opened in 1971 on an historic site in York Harbor, Maine, where York River meets the Atlantic Ocean (please see the historic background of Stage Neck Inn). With the AAA rating system's inception in 1976, Stage Neck Inn became one of the first official Four Diamond Appointments. In the 32 years since that time, the Inn and its staff have consistently earned the AAA Four Diamond Award distinction. Stage Neck Inn is the only property in New England to have this track record with AAA (an achievement shared by only twelve other properties in the entire USA).

What exactly is a Four Diamond Appointment Property? According to AAA "these establishments are upscale in all areas. Accommodations are progressively more refined and stylish. The physical attributes reflect an obvious enhanced level of quality throughout. The fundamental hallmarks at this level include an extensive array of amenities combined with a high degree of hospitality, service, and attention to detail."

Mark Foster, co-owner of the Inn explains: "We have been and continue to be committed to providing a first-class experience for our guests, with each stay offering them a new opportunity in which to escape the ordinary vacation experience. Although limited by development restrictions and the physical size of our grounds, we have done something annually to improve and update the Inn."

"Our major property improvements include taking the property from a seasonal to a year-round resort, installing an indoor pool with Jacuzzi and swimmer's jet, adding a fitness room, expanding and updating meeting and wedding facilities, streamlining and improving our kitchen and two year-round restaurants, the addition of our seasonal Outdoor Terrace restaurant, and upgrading the decor and amenities in each of our 58 guest rooms (new bathrooms, hardwood floors, energy-efficient french sliding doors, fine bed linens and sumptuous furnishings, free property-wide WiFi, and more). The Spa at Stage Neck Inn, offering massage, reiki and other body treatments as well as nail care will be premiering when the Inn reopens in June."
